Each July, the city of Calgary transforms for the Calgary Stampede, one of the largest outdoor festivals in Canada and among the best known of its kind anywhere. For ten days, more than a million visitors fill the grounds to watch rodeo competitions, chuckwagon races, agricultural showcases, live concerts, and a nightly fireworks display. The Stampede brings energy, colour, and a sense of shared pride to residents and travellers alike. It has become one of the most recognizable celebrations of western Canadian heritage.

The event traces its roots to 1912, when a travelling showman organized the first large exhibition, though smaller agricultural fairs in the area date back even further. The celebration has grown steadily with each passing year. Early gatherings drew a modest crowd of local ranchers, while recent editions have welcomed well over a million guests from across the country and beyond. Today the program lists more than a hundred separate attractions, several of which appear nowhere else, including the famous chuckwagon race and a heavy-horse pulling contest. The Stampede is held every year in early July, at the height of the summer season.
