CELPIP Writing Task 2: frequently asked questions
Can I choose either option in CELPIP Writing Task 2? Is one correct?
Either is fine. The instruction is simply "choose the option that you prefer", and there is no right answer: Paragon's own Level 10 sample chose the training while their Level 9 sample chose keeping the vacation. Pick the one you can support with better specifics.
Do I have to argue both sides or include a counter-argument?
You must not argue both sides. State a clear choice. However, Paragon's official strategy does include "compare your choice to the other choice", so briefly acknowledging why the alternative is weaker is rewarded. Concede, then commit. Prep sites that make a full counter-argument paragraph mandatory are overstating this.
Do I have to write it as an email?
No. Paragon says email format is not needed here. It is not penalised either: both official high-scoring samples used a greeting and sign-off. Do whichever is faster for you and spend the words on your reasons.
Do I have to click Option A or Option B?
Yes. It is a radio button on the screen. Select it, and make sure your written response matches the option you selected.
How many reasons should I give?
Two or three, one paragraph each, each backed by a specific detail or example. That is the official structure.
How long do I get for CELPIP Writing Task 2?
26 minutes, one minute less than Task 1. The same recommended split applies: roughly 4 to 5 minutes planning and about 3 minutes checking.
How many words should CELPIP Writing Task 2 be?
About 150 to 200, the same as Task 1. Paragon's official high-scoring samples came in at 170 and 184 words.
