How many questions are in CELPIP Listening Part 1?
Eight, spread across a single conversation that is broken into three audio segments, with two or three questions after each segment.
Is CELPIP Listening Part 1 three separate conversations?
No, and this is a common prep-site error. It is one conversation split into three consecutive sections: the problem is introduced, developed, then resolved. Knowing that gives you a structure to take notes against.
Do I see the question on screen in CELPIP Listening Part 1?
No, and this is the biggest structural trap in the section. In Parts 1 to 3 the question is read aloud to you, once, and only the four answer choices are printed. Keep taking notes while the question is being spoken.
How long do I get per question?
30 seconds, and that includes the time spent listening to the question being read to you, so your real answering window is closer to 22 or 25 seconds. Questions come one at a time and you must answer in order.
Can I replay the audio?
No. Paragon is explicit: all audio clips are played one time only, they begin automatically, and they cannot be paused or rewound. This is the single biggest difference from most practice you will have done, and it is why note-taking, not comprehension, is usually the thing that needs training.
Can I take notes during CELPIP Listening?
Yes. You are given pen and paper at the test center and you can ask for more. Your notes are never collected or scored. (Some prep sites claim you get an erasable noteboard and marker. Paragon says pen and paper.)
Is there a penalty for a wrong answer?
No. Paragon states that points are not deducted for incorrect answers, so leaving a question blank is strictly worse than guessing. Always put something down before the timer runs out.
Is CELPIP Listening Part 1 the easiest part?
Yes. Paragon states that difficulty increases from Part 1 through Part 6, so Part 1 is the most accessible eight points on the Listening test.
