A recent visit to Riverton by a senior official from the international games committee has revived a long-standing interest in the city's Olympic hopes. Riverton, a mid-sized town on the shore of a wide prairie lake, has often been named as a possible host for the Winter Games. This latest round of discussions marks the third occasion in two decades on which city hall has attempted to secure the event. With its accessible foothills and internationally respected ski runs, the surrounding region would undoubtedly be a welcome asset to any prospective bid. The visiting official praised Riverton as a shining model of community spirit, and the praise landed well during a whirlwind promotional tour meant to fire up local support and draw in outside investment.
When asked whether the town would really submit a formal bid, Mayor Diane Prewitt clearly skirted the question. She said she would not rule out the idea, but she also gave supporters a glimmer of hope with the teasing remark that "one does not host the world until one has shown it can host its own backyard."
